Introducing HatayArkeolojisi

Bird Rinceau Mosaic from the House of the Bird Rinceau. Antakya, Türkiye. 526-540 CE. many colored cut stones in lime mortar. Worcester, 1936.23

I am a data scientist from Hatay, Antakya, known historically as Antioch, which boasts a rich tapestry of heritage and civilization dating back many ages. Since the museum of the province does not have an official website for the ancient collections, my deep interest in the culture and history of my city led me to explore the artifacts, especially mosaics, discovered in the region. During my search, I realized that many mosaics excavated in Antioch, Daphne, or Seleucia Pieria are now in France or the United States. Most of the information about them is written in a foreign language. Unfortunately, most people from Hatay don't speak English or French, and many are unaware of the buried city and the mosaics lying underground. That's why I decided to open an Instagram account—HatayArkeolojisi—to share all the artifacts that were discovered in Antioch.

Through this platform, I want to raise awareness about and provide access to the fascinating history of our land for all Antiochians and anyone interested in our cultural heritage. I share images and descriptions of mosaics, sculptures, pottery, and other items uncovered in our region, while providing historical context behind these artifacts to explain their significance and the civilizations that created them. I collaborate with historians, archaeologists, and cultural institutions to bring expert insights and up-to-date information about ongoing discoveries and research.
