Updates on the Status of Antioch
As we continue to grapple with the scope of the tragedy of February’s earthquakes, we share the following links to articles concerning its impact on Antakya’s cultural heritage:
NPR (National Public Radio): Turkey’s Antakya is in Ruins after the quake, erasing cultural and religious heritage
Hyperallergic: Art Orgs Mobilize Support After Turkey-Syria Earthquakes
The Wall Street Journal: Ancient Antioch Survived Many Disasters in its 2,400 Years – Then Turkey’s Earthquake Obliterated It
Aljazeera: Quake-hit Antakya communities seek role in saving rich heritage
We would also like to promote Turkey-Syria Earthquake: A teach-in, a panel discussion hosted by The Program in Racism, Immigration, and Citizenship at Johns Hopkins University on the recent Turkey–Syria earthquakes featuring RIC graduate students, scholars, and activists from the region.
The panel will run Friday, March 17th, 2023 from 12pm—1:30pm (EST). It is a hybrid event, being hosted both in Mergenthaler Hall, Room 366 (Homewood Campus, JHU) and Zoom (Register here).
